What makes Byron Candle Co. candles unique?

Byron Candle Co. is a candle system that allows you to create-your-own candle ritual — designed to bring coastal luxury, creativity, and calm into your home. Instead of a traditional poured candle, we use sustainably sourced pearled wax, allowing you to pour, style, light and refill your candle in your own way, whenever you need a reset or beautiful moment.

Are the candles refillable?

Our candles are designed to be enjoyed again and again by reusing the same vessel, helping reduce waste and support a more sustainable way of living. Once you’ve blown out your candle, let it cool, then remove the wick and either smooth the pearled wax back into place or top it up with more wax. Finish by placing a new wick, or trim and reuse your existing wick if it’s still in good condition.

What type of wax do you use?

We use sustainably sourced RSPO-certified pearled palm wax. It’s a premium, clean-burning wax in a soft “sand-like” form, designed for our pour-your-own candle ritual and made to support refilling and reusing your vessel again and again, helping reduce waste.

Are the candles scented or unscented?

A the moment, Byron Candle Co. candles are naturally scent-free (unscented). This makes them ideal for those who prefer a clean, subtle candle experience, or who are sensitive to fragrance.

If you’d like to add your own scent, you can place a small drop or two of fragrance oil onto the wax, close by the wick, however please be cautious — some oils can be flammable. Never add oil directly onto a flame.

We’ll also be introducing high-quality fragrance oils to our store soon so you can customise your ritual even more.

Can I use my own vessel for the pearled wax?

Yes, you can absolutely use your own vessel.

That’s part of the Byron Candle Co ritual — creative freedom. You can pour your pearled wax into a vessel you already love (or find something beautiful and unique), and make your candle truly your own.

Just make sure your vessel is:

heat-safe (glass, ceramic, or metal)
stable and non-flammable
placed on a heat-proof surface

This is a simple way to create a candle that matches your space, your style, and your mood — while keeping things mindful and low-waste.

Care & Maintenance

How do I set up my candle for the first time?

Our pearled candles are simple, creative, and safe when used correctly. Follow these steps to enjoy your Byron Candle Co candle ritual:

1. Pour

Choose a fire-safe vessel and pour in your pearled wax. We recommend sturdy glass, ceramic, or metal vessels that are at least 10cm wide. This helps keep melted wax away from the edges and supports a safer, more even burn.
If using wooden vessels, please use with extra care at all times.

2. Insert Your Wick

Place your wick in the centre of the wax pearls.

Cotton Wicks:

Position the wick upright with around 0.5cm exposed above the pearls

Ensure the wick has 2–3cm of pearls around it, and 2–3cm beneath it

Wooden Wicks:

Insert the wick fully, leaving only a small tip exposed (approx. 0.3cm)

XL Wooden Wicks:

Insert fully with a small tip exposed (approx. 0.3cm)

3. Light Your Candle

Cotton wicks can burn for up to 12 hours when inserted correctly

Wooden wicks may take a little longer to catch — hold the flame steady until it reaches the wax pearls

4. Refresh & Reuse

Once finished, allow the wax to cool, then remove the wick. You can trim and reuse it, or replace it with a new wick to start fresh. Simply smooth out the wax pearls or top up with more to renew your candle and continue the ritual.

How do I replace the wick?

Replacing your wick is simple and part of the refill ritual.

Let the candle cool completely - Make sure the wax pearls have fully set and the vessel is cool to touch.
Remove the old wick - Gently pull the wick out from the centre. If it’s stuck, loosen it slowly and lift it out.
Smooth and level the wax pearls - Use a spoon or gently rock vessel to softly even the wax surface.
Insert your new wick - Place the new wick into the centre of the pearls.
You can also trim and reuse your existing wick if it’s still in good condition.

Can I clean and reuse my vessel?

That’s one of the core ideas behind Byron Candle Co, a more eco-friendly, low-waste candle ritual designed to be enjoyed again and again.

Because our pearled wax is a “reset as you go” system, your vessel rarely (if ever) becomes heavily sooted or blackened like traditional poured candles — making it easy to refresh, refill, and keep your candle looking beautiful.

Can I make a floating candle with my wax?

Yes - grab a wide, shallow water safe vessel, fill with water, shells, and pretty things! Then gentle top with white pearls and place your wick. They'll float beautifully and add a creative flair to any table setting. Floating candles can be a little messy to dismantle, so we recommend doing this over a cloth or sink to catch any decorations and wax pearls.

What should I know about safety, care and burn times?

Safety Guidelines

To enjoy your Byron Candle Co ritual safely, please follow these guidelines:

Always use a heat-safe vessel at least 10cm wide.
Keep the wick centred and away from the vessel edges or any decorations.
Maintain at least 2–3cm of wax pearls beneath the wick at all times.
Pearled wax is designed to self-extinguish under normal use, however accidents can occur — never leave a burning candle unattended.
Our wax pearls are plant-based and non-toxic, but not edible — do not ingest. Avoid contact with eyes. Blow out flame sideways to avoid scattering the wax.

General Fire Safety

Never burn candles near flammable objects.
Keep candles away from children and pets.
Avoid drafts and direct airflow for a safer, more even burn.
Do not move a candle while it is burning.
When using flames/fire, always follow all instructions carefully and use responsibly.
Our pearled wax is designed to help smother the flame if the candle is accidentally knocked over, making it a safer option when used correctly.

Burn Times

Burn time depends on your vessel size and how your wicks are placed.
As a guide, a standard 500g box can provide around 80-120 hours of burn time when used in a medium-sized vessel with correct wick placement and safe burning practices.
Each wick can be reused until it naturally burns out. Cotton wicks typically last around 12 hours, while wooden wicks can burn for around 20 hours when set up correctly.

Where do you ship from?

We ship all Byron Candle Co orders from Australia.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Delivery times depend on your location and the shipping option selected at checkout. Orders are usually packed and dispatched within 1–2 business days (excluding weekends and public holidays). Once dispatched, you’ll receive a tracking link so you can follow your parcel all the way to your door.

Do you offer international shipping?

No, we currently ship within Australia only.

Can I return or exchange my order?

We want you to love your Byron Candle Co purchase. If something isn’t quite right, please contact us and we’ll do our best to help.

For hygiene and safety reasons, we’re unable to accept returns on used or opened products, however if your order arrives damaged or there is a fault, please reach out to us within 7 days of delivery with photos and your order number so we can arrange a replacement or solution.

If you’ve changed your mind and your items are unused and unopened, please contact us as soon as possible and we’ll advise if a return or exchange can be arranged in line with our returns policy.

What are your shipping fees?

Standard AUD $15 shipping fee is calculated at checkout. You’ll also see any available express delivery options if you need your candle system in a hurry.
